Accessibility

We are committed to ensuring campus events are accessible and inclusive. If you require accommodations or assistance due to the impact of a disability, please contact Ellie at ekblack@olemiss.edu. We encourage you to submit your requests at least two weeks in advance, if possible, as some accommodations may require advance planning

GENERAL ACCESSIBILITY GUIDELINES

The Glitterary Festival strives to create an environment that is welcoming to as many people as possible. We must balance that goal against limited fiscal resources, an all-volunteer workforce, and the paradox that one person’s accommodation is sometimes another person’s barrier.

Please consider the following beneficial behaviors to make this conference as accessible as possible for attendees:

Maintain clear paths:

Please be conscious of the “traffic jams” that sometimes occur in doorways and aisles, and how they can impede others’ mobility. Be mindful to leave lots of space for others to maneuver, with or without mobility devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, and canes.

Share the air:

Smoke and scents travel quickly, and air won’t move if you ask it to. Washing your hands after smoking makes a difference. The University of Mississippi is smoke-free.

Fragrance-Free Conference:

In the interest of supporting our colleagues with sensitivity to alcohols and scent, we ask that attendees refrain from wearing perfumes or fragrances. Perfumes and fragrances (including scented lotions) can negatively affect people with multiple chemical sensitive syndrome (MCS), asthma, and/or autoimmune disorders. For every 100 people in America, there are an average of 10 with asthma, 20 with an autoimmune disorder, and/or 12.5 with MCS.

Service Animal Etiquette:

Although interacting with animals is tempting, please don’t pet, distract, or take photos of service animals at the conference. Those of us who rely on service animals need our animals to be able to concentrate on doing their jobs well.

We welcome your comments and discussion about how we can create better access at this conference for future events.

COVID STATEMENT

We are committed to making this event safe for all people—which includes going the extra mile for COVID precautions. We will have free masks available for participants on-site, as well as hand sanitizer and accessible restrooms nearby at all events. We encourage participants to practice social distance and spend mingling time outdoors whenever possible.

In the event of another surge, we have contingency plans to go partially or fully online. We will keep you updated, and we appreciate your patience and understanding in knowing that sometimes, pandemic circumstances change at the last minute.

In the event of an online Glitterary Festival, panelist rooms will still be reserved and paid for in case any attendees still want to come to Oxford.
